Jeman Seo
Jeman Seo is a Seoul-based artist whose practice traverses painting and drawing to investigate the interplay between memory, perception, and the materiality of mark-making. Through iterative processes of layering, erasure, and redrawing, Seo constructs visual fields that resist fixed interpretation, inviting viewers into spaces where form and meaning remain in flux.
Seo's work often emerges from personal experiences and memories, translating ephemeral moments into tactile surfaces. Employing materials such as oil paint, graphite, and oil pastel, he engages in a meditative process that mirrors the act of recollection-fragmentary, non-linear, and subject to distortion. His compositions, while abstract, evoke architectural elements and landscapes, serving as metaphors for the structures of thought and memory.
Seo's work has garnered attention for its exploration of the boundaries between the seen and the unseen, the said and the unsayable. By embracing ambiguity and the impermanence of memory, he creates spaces within his art that reflect the transient nature of human experience.
