Marc Oosting
Marc Oosting is a Dutch artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, textiles, installation, film, sculpture and wall painting. Originally trained as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kampen, and later at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, Oosting’s work investigates questions of authorship, reproduction and authenticity through material and conceptual means.
Grounded in a deep engagement with the conditions of display and production, Oosting constructs visual propositions that probe the shifting value systems surrounding contemporary art objects. His practice often reflects on processes of appropriation, the circulation of cultural motifs, and the embedded politics of making.
From 2014 to 2019, Oosting was largely based in Korea, where he developed long-standing collaborations and participated in residencies at MMCA Seoul and the Asia Culture Centre in Gwangju. In 2016, he was in residence at IFP Beijing with support from the Mondriaan Fund. His experience in Asia continues to inform his practice, both aesthetically and thematically. Most recently, he curated Important Questions for the Union Pavilion at the 15th Gwangju Biennale.
Oosting’s work has been exhibited widely, with solo presentations at venues such as Loom (Berlin), Cha Art Gallery (Rotterdam), Nieuw Dakota (Amsterdam), and Black Sesame Space (Beijing). His installations and collaborative projects have featured in group exhibitions at MMCA Korea, ACC Gwangju, How Art Museum (Wenzhou), P/////AKT (Amsterdam), and B10CK (Hangzhou), among others. His work is held in public and private collections across Europe and Asia, including DNB (Amsterdam), Heden (The Hague), and JNBY (Hangzhou).
